This timber bridge deteriorated quickly due to the rough water and conditions of the inlet, so while it was a good place to start, it did not even last beyond five years. The Charles W. Cullen Bridge across the Indian River Inlet is an engineering masterpiece and, with its night lighting, has become a very popular landmark of the Delaware Seashore – both day and night. The Bridge was opened/dedicated in January, 2012, and Bill Swartwout’s night photograph was created in December, 2013.
