Know a guy who went to MSU. There are ~7-10 students (out of 9000 class size) who get jobs in high finance every year from MSU. It is definitely possible, but it definitely requires more work. That said, if you're hungry, networking to get yourself into the interview room builds character.

One might even make the argument that Rice isn't ranked too low, but rather too high as a result of the prestigious brand of the undergrad.
