For micros I'd say a good starter account size would be 1-3k. Don't believe the hype, you do need a fair amount of money to trade futures, it's not that cheap to get into futures and if you don't know what you're doing you will get fvcked off trading futures, they aren't "safe" they come with a lot of leverage even micros.

Micro ES moves at $1.25 tick, so you need a whole point move (4 ticks) to pretty much beak even.
