The light is still on. I got my friend to run the codes and they came out to be P1682 and P0449 (That code was on there twice.) I did a little research and these are the results I found: P1682 - Low Cat Efficiency. P0449 - Electrical or Emission Canister Solenoid Emission Valve. But you need to resolve that diagnostic link connector issue first. If the scan tool is not powering up when connected & key ON, there is a power or ground issue at the connector.
To see what's happening with the check engine light, go to a parts store and have them read the engine codes. Many places will scan it for free. They can also tell you what parts might need replacing but they can sometimes not be 100% accurate. Some repair shop will do a free scan. For the brakes, you could need to replace the rotors.
