Jun 15, 2017 · The old black/gold version (MD409) has a huge reputation, but I don't think it deserves it. To me it sounds the same as an e906 in flat presence mode. The e609 to my ear sounds a lot like the e906 in boost presence mode. Anyway you look at it the e609 is a nice mic, but the e906 is better, if you can afford it. The e609 is more of the same class as the SM57. The e906 is twice the cost (where I live) and perhaps 3 times the mic with it's in-built versatility than a 57. But the 468 was by far the fullest, hottest sounding, and most accurate sounding mic of the three. I'll do some experimenting with mic placement just to see if I can even out the results somewhat.
