Moonveil has more range on it's specials compared to Uchigatana with it's standard Unsheath, but also costs more FP. Overall both weapons are great tbh. Despite all the hate that Moonveil gets, regular Uchigatana is basically on par with it. You need to have dedicated build for it to be good.

Moonveil is more agile, does a good chunk of damage with or without buffs. Compare to DMGS directly, the main difference is that AOW damage cannot be buffed by Godfrey Icon. Bottomline, DMGS for fights that would end fast (e.g getting all the charged attack in without break). It's a really good weapon on a dex/int build. Katanas have a good moveset and unsheathe is already strong. The moonveil's ash of war is basically unsheathe+ since it gets range. its good, not even close to the actually strong weapons but better than most weapons. Its feels a bit cheesy to win like this but its strong for sure, probably one of the most op weapon with the sword of night and flame build. If you like the shield and sword combo...go for carian knight shield...or another medium shield with the no skill ash. Then pair it with the moonveil.
