This was using an Allis Chalmers planter and adaptor with Lustran and JD plates. I'd kinda like to have one of those guides, just too tight with the greenbacks. I have the planter manual. But, the chart for seed populations only goes up to 45,000 for 30 inch rows, which seems waaay low. There is another section that gives seed populations in pounds. In this section, I found 60 pounds per acre, which is what I want, about 150,000 soybeans per acre. In 1978, I am sure they never dreamed of planting 32000 pop for corn, thus, the population chart skips from 32000 to 35600 for 30" rows. Newer 7000 planters had regular chain links and sprockets of 14, 18, 22, etc. You need to possibly double or cut in half the sprocket tooth count to make a new or old manual work with an old or new planter. The max corn population with the fingers is listed as 56,100. I f I were to plant the beans at 56,100 and then plant a second time splitting the rows would give 112,200 population on 15 inch rows. I know the population would be lower than recommended. I just really don't want to spend any money if the fingers will work with beans for 6 acres.
