Jeep compass shuts off while driving.
Own a 2004 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with 61,000 miles. This past weekend while driving went to pull into a parking lot. The jeep just shut off like someone flipped a light switch. Turned the key and it started right back up. On way home while driving down the interstate same thing. Drifted off to the berm and eventually got it to turn over.
We have a 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude (4WD). Over the past few days, the engine would shut down and try to restart with the vehicle moving. I stopped at a Valvoline Oil Change location, as I was almost due for an oil change. I had the service done, then I asked the tech to check for codes. It came back with a "Crankshaft Position Sensor" code.When the oil gets low the valves can't actuate and the vehicle shuts down. It was corrected by a recall/update. You should check with a Jeep dealer to see if your Compass had the recall performed. My son also has a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has recently in the last 2 months started cutting off while driving. Sounds like a door or the lift gate isn't closing all the way. Maybe when it locks it pulls them close enough to hit the sensors. And maybe when you hit a bump or something the sensor sees that the door is open for a split second turning on the lights.
