The roller on the throttle arm of the carb should just touch the cam on the magneto stator as the arrow mark on the cam aligns with the throttle arm. Status: Offline. Points: 1180. the service manual reads +4deg and -20deg which means the idle timing is 4 degrees ATDC and the high speed timing is 20 degrees BTDC, you cannot use a timing light to set the timing on those engines, you need an optical sensor ignition analyser which only a dealer will have.

Then push the magneto control arm all the way until it hits the full advance stop. Look up underneath the edge of the flywheel and see if mark "a" on the flywheel is lined up with mark "b" on the timing plate base. That is full advanced. The important is to get the carbs starting to open at the timing specified when the arrow on #47 lines up with the roller on the carb (pick up timing). May 8, 2021 · Hi. I have a 1985 Johnson 100 hp commercial outboard. The model number is J100WMLCOC. I cannot find the wot timing spec anywhere. I have looked many times on the net and here with no luck. What I am seeing is cranking at wot with the timer base rubber stop hitting it's stop is 21 degrees. Of course at wot this should equate to 25 degrees.

It is a long screw with a rubber cap, starboard side, behind the top end of the vertical throttle lever. Spec is 28 degrees at full advance @ 4500 RPM in gear, on the boat on the lake.
