I don't have answers for you but I can say I too favored cleric before 2e. One thing to keep in mind I started with the old d&d box sets through advanced, 2nd edition and third and pathfinder 1 but then sorta stopped and did not really do 4th or 5th edition but came back for pf2. Quite frankly the cleric in thos early editions were super powerful.
