They are a bit bouncier because of the padding so if you do technichs the swords might bounce and slide on each other a little, but its perfectly fine at the begining. I never used a basic trainer so i dont have any opinions on them. I would not use the Purpleheart basic trainers for any kind of sparring whatsoever.
