Ariens vs cub cadet.
Dad and grandpa always had Ariens but I think they were made tougher back then. The steel seemed thicker, as I remember grandpa doing some welding on his. I was always told Cub Cadet was junk, but from what I've read, everything they sell is 100% made in the US whereas Ariens is now having some engines made in China. Never had a Cub or a Toro.
I'm a big Ariens fan and I must say they did a nice job with the Sno Tek at $649 vs $899 for the Compact. I won’t use it a lot, but I will be trying to clean up berms left by our HOAs plowing service and the deep snow on the sides of the driveway. I expect I will have to break the berms down a bit with a shovel. I’m leaning towards the Cadet even though I know Ariens has a better reputation.

Included in this group is a 9hp model with the "power steering" feature. It is on sale for $899.99 through 12/15 dont know what price is after.In simply looking at what you have listed, I would consider the Cub Cadet ZTX5 54", that is if you are okay with staying with the Cub brand. And while it goes against what I have just said regarding the engines in particular, the new Toro Titan series with the 24.5 hp engine and commercial air filtration is a nice machine.

Some of the SHO are very big engines (369cc). The Professional can be even bigger (420cc). Those are some of the biggest baddest snowblowers on the market. And I'd be more comfortable with their build quality, vs Cub Cadet. If traction is a big concern, it's worth considering tracks, or Ariens' Rapidtrak system.
