There is nothing wrong with having a 16 in your primary stat, your character will still be effective, but optimancers will suggest you try to get your dexterity to an 18. As a magus you are inherently going to do damage, all you need to do is hit with your spellstrike.

Given the builds above, you can create a good Magus with almost every race: anything with a boost to str, dex or int is a decent choice. Of course, small races should avoid the strength build. The races offer various bonuses for a favored class; however, as a frontliner with d8 hit dice, I recommend simply taking an extra hit point each level.

Outside of thief rogues, archer builds and druids, I can't see any reason to ever build dex in pf2e given how trivial it is to get heavy armor prof for bulwark. In this case, freeing up dex allows a magus to have ideal stats by investing in str/con/int/wis and further boosting by taking dex and cha flaws (usually for more con).
