Nov 26, 2019 · SIG MCX upper receiver groups can be used on most AR-15 lower receivers with the addition of a lower receiver adapter kit that is included with most MCX Virtus upper receiver packages. The kit includes a screw in buffer tube attachment that will allow for folding stocks since a buffer tube, buffer and buffer spring are not required. The buffer tube is gone with the adapter. So you're essentially dedicating a lower to it to the mcx upper. If I remember correctly the kit comes with a hinge adapter that you can use with a standard buffer tube if you wanted to. The MCX's relocated charging handle adds a bit more material to the top of the receiver. It isn't much and it doesn't throw off the gun's ergonomics, but it's a bit of a step backwards, svelteness-wise.
