I cleaned the contacts at the preheat relay (middle relay in a group of three located on the r/h side of engine above the oil filter) and the contacts on the ignition switch.

If Is diesel you should have some type of water/sediment filter that is clear plastic with a shut off. Shut off the fuel, remove filter, turn shut off back on let drain into container. If gas should also have a filter but will be smaller if no shut off pinch line closed remove gas line and empty into container. It is diesel.

If you go ahead and take the panel off to get access to the switch, it is probably just 2 wires in which case they are either electrically connected or disconnected by the switch.
