As it is used I was curious if anyone knew when it was manufactured? I believe you can tell by the serial number if i've heard correctly. The serial number is CEM3832.

I think it is a .32 caliber with an 1880 patent printed on the top of the barrel. I have one that looks just like this S/N 83670 and I believe it is the Third Model .32 d.a. (1880-1919) which differed only slightly from the Second Model, except that the side walls of the trigger were made to cover the rear sear and cylinder stop.

So, it should have a Mod. 15-? stamp inside the yoke in front of the cylinder. If it is a CM, it will have either a 2" or 4" barrel with adjustable rear sight and ramped front sight. The .38 S&W case is larger in diameter than the Special, in order to accept the .360- to .361-inch diameter bullets. The Special case expands into the larger chamber, at least up to the point where the Special reamer made the cylinder the “proper” diameter.
