If you have good lume on your watch, you usually do NOT have to intentionally "charge" the lume. In darkness you just look at your watch, and it's there, because the watch saw light sometime during the past 6 hours and was already "charged". I have a clock in my bedroom, so I don't have to look at my watch to see time.

A lot of the newer diving watches had this weird lume that looked like blobs of glue.
