Estoc has the reach, poise damage and variety of attacks (including shield bypass), but the Ropera has better damage, weight and counter bonus. Plus can parry one-handed. Comboing makes all the difference between a casual Estoc user and a master. You can kill newbies with R1's for sure, but against a good player you just get parried. Play cleverly. I'd say Ricard's Rapier is better, but even harder to use. Crow quills have the best critical dmg and scaling of dex thrusting swords.

That spell doesn't scale up with your pyro glove; it gives a flat 40% damage boost whether you've got a pyro flame +1 or +15, so don't worry about spending souls on it.
