There is a separate hydraulic cylinder, connections to the belly-mounted cylinder, a selector valve between the two, etc.Agreed, and thus my reasons for never considering this. A lot of the shop-built 3-point hitches don't have the correct geometry to work properly. They may work passably well for utility type stuff (platforms and the like), but fail with equipment that requires a proper draft behavior (like a plow). Try using a combination like that and you will be constantly fighting it.

I have a 1951 Farmall M with live hydraulics, pump next to distributor and a 2 way valve on the top of the pump.
