There is no "best" Magus. Different kinds of Magi are good (or in comparison to the other kinds "best") in different areas. All of them are viable. If you want ranged combat, be an Eldritch Archer. For melee: Vanilla Magus for highest number of spells per day and highest flexibility. Eldritch Scion for ease-of-use with spntaneous casting. Like everyone says, magus is mostly melee damage with self buffs, those spell pen and ele focus feats are going to waste. Use self buffs, get 4 elements on your weapon (three with arcana), and grab Elemental Barrage. That's the basic way magus works right now. Str builds is more damage, while Dex builds can go into high AC tanks easier.Dexterity if you want to tank, otherwise strength is fine. Sword Saint, Eldridge Scion, and arcane Archer are all quite good. But all of the Magus archetypes are very micro-intensive, and probably aren't even worth playing unless you plan to use turn based combat heavily.
