Apr 5, 2023 · Model 36 serial number and production date. Have a J frame 5 shot with 3 inch barrel that I am trying to identify when it was built. With cylinder swung out the yoke is stamped 36-1. The hammer main spring is coil type with center rod and ball on lower end instead of leaf spring. RH side plate has only three screws.

The -7 and -8 have always confused me. I have seen no definitive descrpiption of either one other than -7 was two piece barrel and -8 was slab side barrel. Both don't hold true when looking at examples online that appear to be same as a -6. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the 629 will chime in.
